How To Jailbreak iPhone 4s
The untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S has been finally released and the jailbreaking community has sprung into overdrive. Jailbreak tweaks and hacks are springing up left right and center and amazing apps keep filling up Cydia marketplace. So we are back with a tutorial, as promised, to teach you how to jailbreak iPhone 4S untethered or your iPad 2 untethered running on iOS 5.0.1 and iOS 5.0
Step 1 The first step is to make sure that you save and dump your SHSH blobs to your hard drive, as this would let you downgrade your iPhone or iPad in-case something goes wrong during the jailbreaking process and you end up with an expensive paper weight instead of a jailbroken phone. Grab this nifty little application called TinyUmbrella for both Windows and MAC to save your SHSH blobs. These would come in handy if you decide to cook up a custom IPSW via, say, sn0wbreeze to downgrade your iPhone 4S.
Step 2: Grab absinthe jailbreaking tool for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 from this download link. (remember this is for MAC only as of now. A windows based tool is expected soon)
Update 1: Absinthe for Windows has been released. Grab it here. This tutorial applies for both MAC and Windows.
Step 3: Also make sure that you backup your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, so that you do not lose any data and easily restore your data once your phone is jailbroken.
Step 4: Connect your device to your MAC or PC using the USB cable and launch the Absinthe jailbreaking application. There is not much to do from this point on. There is a single button labeled “jailbreak”. Just click it and let it do its work, as it jailbreaks your iPhone 4S or iPad 2.
Step 5: Once the process is complete you would be taken to your device’s home screen. You would notice the Absinthe icon on your homescreen. Tap this icon and this would attempt to make a connection with Greenp0ison servers. You don’t have to do anything else at this point
Step 6: When the process is complete your Iphone 4S would reboot automatically and you would be holding in your hand a fully functional jailbroken iPhone 4S, with the big beautiful logo of cydia sitting proudly on the homescreen, that we all had been dying to see on our iPhone 4S.
