Now that iOS 5 final version has been officially released to the public, the jailbreaking community has made no delays in coming up with jailbreak for iOS 5. You can follow this detailed tutorial to jailbreak iOS 5 your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
Assuming that you have just updated your iOS version to IOS 5, do make sure that you activate your iPhone before you begin the process of jailbreaking ios 5. Whenever a new version of iOS is installed, your iPhone contacts apples servers to activate your particular iDevice. SO just complete the initial setup steps and let your iPhone activate with apples servers before we begin the process of ios 5 jailbreak.
Step 1: Download the latest version of redsn0w 0.9.15b3. The download links have been given below. Also download iOS 5 IPSW file which will be required during the jailbreak iOS 5 process.
Step 2: Put the phone in DFU mode. If you don’t know how to put your iPhone in DFU mode then check the given link.
Step 3: Click on extras and then select ipsw. Now you have to select the downloaded IPSW file from the location where you saved it on your computer.
Step 4: Now just click the jailbreak button. On the next screen that comes up, make sure that install cydia is checked and then just click next and redsn0w would then initiate the ios 5 jailbreak process. IT’s important that you do not disconnect your device or stop the process.
Step 5: When the jailbreak iOS 5 process is finished, your iPhone will reboot to your homescreen. Now since this is a tethered jailbreak there’s one more additional step that needs to be done. We will be using redsn0w to initiate a tethered boot which is a requirement for tethered jailbreaks.
Step 6: Since we have to boot the device tethered, place the device back into DFU mode and click on the extras menu on redsn0w and then just boot. Anytime you have to reboot your iPhone you would have to do this particular step.
And that’s all there is to it. Now you have successfully achieved jailbreak IOS 5 tethered using redsn0w 0.9.15b3 your iPhone iPad or iPAD touch. The only drawback of a tethered jailbreak is that you would have to reboot your phone using redsn0w as your phone will be stuck in the boot cycle whenever the battery dies or you turn off your phone.
