Jailbreak iOS 6.0.1 with Redsn0w 0.9.15b3
Jailbreak iOS 6.0.1: iPhone 6.0.1 jailbreak is now possible thanks to the guys behind the RedSn0w jailbreaking tool. RedSn0w has been updated to the latest version Redsn0w 0.9.15b3, and although it does not natively support iOS 6.0.1, iPhone 6.0.1 jailbreak can be achieved by just pointing RedSn0w towards iOS 6, which it supports, so that’s not a problem. Read on for the detailed tutorial. I hope that i make it easier for people who are doing it for the first time. The people who have been around the block could probably do this now with their eyes closed.
Caution: I would like to remind you that currently an untethered iOS 6.0.1 jailbreak is not possible on pre A5 devices, so if you are looking specifically for an untethered jailbreak, then i am afraid that you might have to wait a little longer, as the devs are still working on it. However this tutorial would serve you well if you are interested in iOS 6.0.1 and 6.0 tethered jailbreak for your A5 based devices, such as the iPhone 4 and iPod touch and earlier pre A5 models.
Step 1: Download the latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.15b3 and download iOS 6.0 firmware. Download links for Redsnow are given at the end of the post. iOS 6 would be used to point RedSn0w towards iOS 6.0.1 as we mentioned before, so that untethered iOS 6.0.1 jailbreak can be achieved.
Step 2: Launch RedSn0w and Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your computer. Your iDevice should be plugged in and turned off. Then place your iPhone in DFU mode.
Step 3: Once it detects your device, click “extras” and then “select IPSW”. Now you have to look for the iOS 6.0 firmware file that you downloaded and select it. This will allow Redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 6.0.1, as like we mentioned before, Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 does not natively support iOS 6.0.1, so this step is necessary to make it happen.
Step 4: Now head back to Redsn0w main window and click jailbreak. This will begin the tethered iPhone 4 jailbreak process and also give you the option to install Cydia. Option to install Cydia would be check-marked automatically so just click next. You will notice on your iPhone screen the tethered jailbreak being installed. Once the process finishes, do not close RedSn0w as we will need it once more.
Step 5: You should now be on your device’s lockscreen. If you are then all has gone well up till now. Now you would have to place your device in DFU mode once again. Head back to Redsn0w on your computer, and select Extras, and then just boot. This will restart your device and boot it tethered and jailbroken on iOS 6.0.1
Step 6: Once that is done, check your homescreen on your iPhone for the Cydia icon. If it is there then that means that you have successfully achieved tethered jailbreak on iOS 6.0.1
There you have it folks! A pretty simple and straightforward method tojailbreak iOS 6.0.1 on your iPhone. This should be easy regardless if you are doing it the first time or the umpteenth. You might have to wait a little longer if you want to jailbreak iOS 6.0.1 untethered, as that is still in the works but if you cant wait to jailbreak your iPhone, then this tethered iPhone jailbreak would be a good choice to implement. The only drawback would of course be that if your iPhone runs out of juice and shuts down, you would have to boot it back up in tethered mode with Redsn0w, just like you did now.
