Redsn0w Jailbreak

Redsn0w is a very popular tool conceived and developed by the talented members of the iPhone Dev-Team. This tool has evolved over the years and is an indispensible tool in the arsenal of jailbreakers all around the world. Formerly known as QuickPWN, the software has been used since the early days of iPhone jailbreaking. The tool has since been renamed as redsn0w and is highly regarded as a very stable, easy and reliable piece of software.

One of the biggest advantages of this tool is that it can run on both Windows and Mac, users of both platforms can easily use it on their respective computers without any compatibility issues. Plus this tool is completely free and you can easily download your copy of Redsn0w from the official website.

We have compiled a list of all iOS versions and all Apple devices that can run iOS and can be jailbroken via redsnow. You can find that list below, and see if your device can be jailbroken.

Redsn0w for unlocked iPhone users

Previously for unlocked iPhone users, it was not possible to retain one’s unlock if anyone wanted to jailbreak, because it required for your phone to be updated to the latest firmware, which in turn overwrote the baseband causing you to lose the unlock.

However those days are long gone and now you can have the best of both worlds without a lot of hassle, as redsn0w would easily let you update to the latest firmware, jailbreak it while preserving your baseband.

Whenever a new iOS firmware is released, the jailbreak community usually comes up quickly with a jailbreak for it and updates Redsn0w to support it. Almost every iOS firmware from iPhone 3G till iPhone 4 can be jailbroken, however there are a few exceptions and some are explicitly tethered or untethered jailbreaks. More on that will be discussed below in the article.

Redsnow versions

Whenever a new redsn0w is released, you should download it either from our downloads section or from the internet, as the latest redsn0w would be backwards capable and also support the latest firmware jailbreak that it’s particularly released for. So it’s always a good idea to update to the latest version of Redsn0w to avoid any complications.

Tethered and untethered jailbreaks via redsn0w

There are two types of jailbreaks that can be done and that depends upon the particular firmware that you are running in your iDevice. You can check out the detailed guide on jailbreaking to know more about it.

Tethered jailbreak means that it is not a permanent jailbreak. Once jailbroken your iDevice would work fine but  and every time your phone runs out of juice, you would not be able to boot it and you would have to hook it up to your computer to boot it up in a jailbroken state. However you do not lose your data.

Untethered is of course the most desirable jailbreak as this woud let you reboot your iPhone or iPad without the need of hooking it up to your PC and running Redsn0w, so you don’t have to worry about your battery dying on you and you losing the jailbreak

Below is a list of all the devices that can be jailbroken via redsn0w.
